Something About Me

Alethia hails from San Diego, where she found an interest in sustainability and non-profit work because of her community's lack of science education. The lack of exploration of the natural world has created a mental and emotional disparity she seeks to mend in order to combat the overexploitation of our natural resources, anxieties, and over-consumerism. She seeks to mend these relationships within her community for all ages but with a focus on our future leaders. Her interest in education led her to take on leadership positions in several UCSB organizations. In Sprout-up, as an Education Liaison and Lead Instructor, and in Kids in Nutrition, as a Kinstructor, she had sharpened her skills not only in classroom management but also in dynamic communication between students and colleagues. Additionally, while working as an Informal Science Educator at The REEF, she had the opportunity to work with adults and undergraduates, thus opening more pathways toward a career. Her position as a Teacher Assistant at the UCSB Children’s Center granted her insight into child development. Committed to strengthening scientific literacy in schools, she is striving to make understanding environmental issues not only attainable but also fun. A committed environmentalist, Alethia is pursuing post-graduate opportunities of cultivating communities centered on healthy relationships with the natural world. She has aspirations to work as an environmental educator in green spaces shared by students of all ages.
